Questions about the ARIN lookup

What is ARIN?

The American Registry for Internet Numbers hands out IP addresses in North America. The lookup starts there and follows the record to the right registry for addresses elsewhere.

How do I report abuse from an IP address?

Write to the abuse contact the lookup shows. It belongs to the organization that holds the address block.

Why does the lookup show a hosting company, not a person?

Registries record the organization that holds the block, such as a hosting company or ISP, not the customer who uses one address in it.
